Lost 1979 Album by The Cramps Discovered and Released by Rollins and MacKaye

Henry Rollins and Ian MacKaye have revealed a previously lost studio album by the iconic psychobilly band The Cramps. The album, titled 'Gravest Gravy', originates from recording sessions in October 1977 at Ardent Studios in Memphis, produced by Alex Chilton.

Initially, The Cramps released a few tracks from these sessions on singles and their 1979 album 'Gravest Hits', but a significant number of recordings remained unheard until now.

The rediscovered material, comprising twelve tracks including 'TV Set', 'Weekend On Mars', and 'Rocket In My Pocket', has been remastered and will be released on 21 August across various vinyl editions, CD, and digital platforms.

Rollins, who clarified that neither he nor MacKaye performed on the recordings, described 'Gravest Gravy' as one of the 'purest collections of unrestrained, wild music you’ll ever hear,' likening it to Jerry Lee Lewis unchained or Elvis meeting Tarzan. The album was resurfaced by Larry Hardy of In The Red Records, who retrieved six reels from the Cramps' archive.

The release coincides with a renewed interest in the band, partly due to the viral resurgence of their song 'Goo Goo Muck' in 2022 via the Netflix series 'Wednesday'.

Lux and Ivy, the band’s core members, originally recorded the tracks purely for the love of rock ’n’ roll, and the new release aims to celebrate that enduring legacy.
