Malawi has decided to continue using Tanzania’s Mtwara Port for fuel imports following a detailed assessment of its upgraded infrastructure.A team of ten energy specialists from Malawi visited the port to evaluate improvements in petroleum handling systems, which have significantly boosted operational efficiency.

The delegation, led by Alex Calvin Banda from the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA), praised Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) for modernizing oil-handling facilities, noting that these upgrades streamlined fuel transportation and strengthened regional energy trade networks.Key enhancements include advanced Flow Meter systems, expanded storage capacity, and faster fuel transfer processes.These developments are critical for landlocked nations in East Africa seeking reliable supply routes.The collaboration between TPA and private investors has attracted substantial investment, positioning Mtwara as a key logistics hub for the region.

The port now serves not only Tanzania but also neighboring countries like Malawi, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, supporting economic stability and regional integration efforts.
