Mamata Banerjee alleges pressure on hospitals and doctors following attack on Abhishek Banerjee in South 24 Parganas

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that hospitals and medical staff faced external pressure while treating Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee after he was attacked in South 24 Parganas.

According to her, attempts were made to stop his admission and influence medical decisions, raising concerns about interference in healthcare protocols.

She claimed that a hospital administrator informed her about receiving threat calls, allegedly from police sources, which added to the seriousness of the accusations.

Mamata Banerjee questioned the handling of Abhishek Banerjee’s medical care, pointing out that he was initially kept under observation and subjected to multiple tests and scans before being discharged, suggesting that hospitalisation was medically justified.

She further stated that Abhishek Banerjee sustained multiple injuries, including blunt trauma to the face, chest, back and neck, following stone-pelting and physical assault during the incident.Doctors reportedly advised X-rays and scans to rule out fractures, internal bleeding, and possible organ injuries. She also mentioned concerns due to his pre-existing eye condition, stating that comprehensive medical evaluation was necessary.According to her account, the MP was under medical supervision for several hours before discharge.

The incident occurred during Abhishek Banerjee’s visit to South 24 Parganas, where he had gone to meet party workers and families affected by post-election violence.

He was allegedly attacked by a mob while moving through the area, with visuals circulating on social media showing chaos and his security personnel attempting to protect him.Abhishek Banerjee later accused BJP workers of attacking his convoy and described it as an attempt on his life, while the BJP denied all allegations.Mamata Banerjee also stated that several political leaders, including those from opposition parties, expressed concern over the incident.
