Man jailed after violent home invasion and threats following lottery win and drug offences

A 30-year-old man who once won £100,000 on a scratchcard has been jailed following a violent home invasion involving threats to kill and references to a petrol bomb attack.

The individual, Jack Tanbini, won the prize in 2014 while working as a cash and carry apprentice, but later admitted he squandered the money within a few years.According to court reports, Tanbini subsequently became involved in criminal activity, including drug-related offences.

He was previously convicted of supplying cocaine worth around £150,000 and had earlier been caught with cannabis and offences related to dangerous driving.At the time of the most recent incident, he was already serving a lengthy prison sentence.The latest case relates to a violent raid on a flat in Dundee in November 2024, carried out alongside another man, Logan Hards.CCTV footage showed the pair attempting to force entry into a property occupied by siblings, eventually kicking down the door.During the incident, they issued threats of violence, including threats to kill and warnings about using a petrol bomb if money was not handed over.They also stole items from the property before fleeing.Both men admitted charges including making threats to kill and breaking into the property.

Tanbini was given an additional 15-month prison sentence at Dundee Sheriff Court, to run alongside his existing term, which is expected to keep him in custody until 2029.His co-accused was ordered to complete unpaid community service.

The court heard mitigation that Tanbini’s incarceration had already been life-changing, with his lawyer stating he had learned a harsh lesson from his actions.
