ACT Police respond to two small explosions in Kingston unit block
A Melbourne teenager has pleaded guilty to a series of serious offences over a three-month period that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy and left another man with permanent disabilities. The County Court of Victoria heard that the then-16-year-old was involved in a fatal crash on 18 May 2025 in Tarneit, in Melbourne’s west.He was driving a stolen Haval Wagon while drunk and unlicensed, with Kevin Lomena-Olenga as a rear passenger.
The vehicle was travelling at about 93km/h in an 80km/h zone when it ran a red light, collided with an oncoming Toyota Camry and spun before hitting a traffic light pole.Kevin was found unconscious and later died in hospital from a traumatic head injury.
The driver was also injured and has since pleaded guilty to culpable driving causing death, theft, unlicensed driving, and possession of a controlled weapon after a machete was found under the driver’s seat.
The court also heard details of an earlier violent incident on 6 February 2025 at a Flemington housing tower carpark, where the teenager and co-offenders confronted a group of men.
After a brief argument, CCTV allegedly showed the teen running up behind one victim and king-hitting him in the back of the head, while others were assaulted. One man suffered a traumatic brain injury, broken nose and rib fractures, leaving him permanently disabled and unable to return to work.
Prosecutors said the victim required ongoing care, while defence lawyers pointed to the teenager’s difficult background and instability in his family life. The judge described the violence as extreme and largely unprovoked. The offender had also been on probation just days before the fatal crash.Sentencing will occur at a later date.
