Prakash Nayak, 43, and his family in Mumbai still live in fear of falling tree branches eight years after a fatal incident that claimed his 91-year-old aunt Leela Sukhi's life.

The accident occurred on May 29, 2018, when a branch fell on Sukhi while she returned home from Banganga, leaving her with severe injuries that led to her death.The family remains anxious about walking under trees, especially during monsoons, due to the lingering trauma.Sukhi, a former state secretariat employee and Sanskrit teacher, was the emotional cornerstone of her family.

Despite the tragedy, the family never received compensation from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and faced challenges in seeking justice.Authorities have not trimmed the Ashoka tree's branches near Kavale Math, which still triggers their fear.The incident highlights systemic failures in urban safety and the long-term psychological impact on families affected by such accidents.
