Model and actor Rhiya Ahir, who became widely recognised after standing in front of a Mumbai Police van during student protests over alleged examination paper leaks, has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance of stricter action while stressing that the government must deliver tangible results rather than only making promises.

Speaking after the Prime Minister announced that legislation addressing paper leaks would be introduced in Parliament, Ahir said students' concerns were finally being acknowledged but added that meaningful implementation was the real test.

She pointed to the alleged mastermind in the 2024 paper leak case, who was later granted bail and cleared of allegations, saying she hoped a similar outcome would not be repeated.

Modi announced that the proposed legislation would include stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks and the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure quicker disposal of such cases.Ahir responded by saying that while official assurances were encouraging, the public wanted to witness actual enforcement.

She also rejected suggestions that her participation in the protests was intended to gain publicity or had any political motive, explaining that she had deliberately concealed her identity by wearing a hoodie and cap during the demonstration.

The report also noted that activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving written assurances from the Union government regarding discussions on educational reforms and paper leak issues.

According to the government, Parliament would hold detailed discussions on examination reforms, peaceful protesters would not face action, and compensation for families affected by recent NEET-related tragedies was being positively considered.The developments indicate that the government is attempting to address growing public concerns over examination integrity and accountability.
