The National Police Service (NPS) has deployed extensive security checkpoints across Nairobi to ensure law and order during the annual Saba Saba commemoration on July 7, 2026.The measure aims to prevent disruptions, harassment, and potential violence following past incidents where demonstrations turned chaotic.

Checkpoints are stationed on major roads leading to the city center, Parliament, and State House, with police stopping vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians for inspection.While authorities emphasize the need for security, some road users have reported inconvenience and harassment.

Police spokesperson Michael Muchiri stated that the heightened presence is based on historical patterns of unrest, urging public cooperation to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, the Grassroots Economic Justice Movement has announced plans for a peaceful protest with up to 3,000 participants, demanding parliamentary action on human rights issues.

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud assured residents that security remains under control, though tensions persist as the event approaches.
