The Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit is set to expand with the recruitment of 2,500 officers from both the National Police Service and Nairobi County Inspectorate.

Governor Johnson Sakaja announced the move during a church service, emphasizing the need for enhanced security patrols in Nairobi, a city of seven million people.The officers will undergo specialized training to address urban security challenges before deployment.The unit's headquarters is proposed to be located at Kamukunji police station, chosen for its strategic position in Eastlands.The formation follows a directive from President Ruto in February, aiming to improve crime prevention and public safety.The Ministry of Interior conducted a site assessment at Kamukunji to finalize infrastructure plans for the new unit.Sakaja also urged security agencies to tackle political intimidation and maintain stability ahead of elections.The initiative reflects efforts to modernize policing and adapt to Nairobi's complex security environment.
