Robin Padilla faces legal complaint over Bato dela Rosa’s escape; Estrada charged in flood control case
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clarified that its plan to issue a subpoena to Nancy dela Rosa, wife of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, is not intended to determine the senator’s whereabouts.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag emphasized that the subpoena is related to statements made by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, which claimed that Nancy dela Rosa sent a text indicating that the senator had 'escaped' during the Senate shooting incident on May 13.
The bureau wants to investigate whether the incident was used as a diversion to facilitate Senator Bato's departure from Senate protective custody.
The shooting was reported during an ongoing lockdown of the upper chamber following a Supreme Court decision that denied a temporary restraining order sought by the senator, who is facing an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC).The NBI also mentioned General Mao Aplasca’s involvement in the shooting, which could shed light on who directed the event.
The bureau assured that the subpoena is not intended to pressure Nancy dela Rosa regarding her husband’s location and expressed respect for Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson’s questions about the process. This move is part of the ongoing investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the senator’s sudden departure from the Senate premises.
