PNP to evaluate possible revocation of Senator Bato dela Rosa’s firearms license upon formal request

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has stated that it will properly evaluate and act on any formal request to revoke the firearms license of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, once such request is officially received.

According to PNP Public Information Office acting chief Police Colonel Allen Rae Co, the organization has not yet received any request from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding the matter. He clarified that once a request is submitted, the PNP will review it in accordance with Republic Act No.10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, as well as its Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).

Under these rules, a firearm license may be revoked if any of the prescribed conditions are met, and such revocation may be carried out immediately and automatically without the need for further proceedings.

Co also noted that the Firearms License Revocation and Restoration Board (FLRRB) under the Civil Security Group is responsible for determining whether grounds for revocation exist.

The statement came after NBI Director Melvin Matibag reportedly described Senator dela Rosa as “armed and dangerous” while authorities continue efforts to locate him in connection with an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant. The PNP emphasized that due process and legal standards will guide any action regarding firearm license revocation.
