The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag is set to testify before the impeachment court, providing critical details about the agency’s probe into Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.Prosecution panel head Atty.

Benjamin Tolosa emphasized that Matibag’s testimony will clarify aspects not covered by previous witnesses, particularly regarding the intelligence service’s role in the investigation.

Tolosa argued that Duterte’s own statements and refusal to retract her alleged threats constitute strong evidence under the Rules of Court, especially since she declined to withdraw her claims despite being given an opportunity to do so.

The impeachment case against Duterte centers on accusations of making grave threats against the President, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.Meanwhile, the NBI also plans to investigate anomalies surrounding the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, a probe that has drawn scrutiny from lawmakers.The proceedings aim to ensure focus remains on the impeachment case while addressing separate investigations.
