The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is probing Senator Alan Peter Cayetano over alleged irregularities in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) hosting.

Cayetano, who chaired the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC), faces scrutiny for potential violations of corporate governance rules.NBI Director Melvin Matibag highlighted that Cayetano was appointed as interim chairman but not a board member, making his actions ultra vires.The investigation focuses on unliquidated expenses, including P300 million in rental payments to PHISGOC's virtual office in 2023.Cayetano accused the NBI of intimidation, while Matibag dismissed personal remarks as irrelevant.The probe centers on procurement anomalies and financial discrepancies linked to SEA Games infrastructure projects like those in New Clark City.
