CJP leader begins hunger strike over protest site removal and demands PM resignation
NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar has strongly criticised the Central government for its 'irresponsible' handling of activist Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike, accusing authorities of being a bystander to student protests.
Speaking in Baramati, Pawar stated that while the government hospitalised Wangchuk after his health deteriorated on the 21st day of his indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar, the protest would continue regardless of actions against the activist.
The hunger strike, initiated by Wangchuk and three AISA activists on June 28, is part of a larger movement demanding accountability for alleged NEET exam irregularities and student deaths linked to the controversy.
Pawar highlighted that leaders from Congress, NCP (SP), and other parties visited the protest site but government representatives failed to engage directly. He warned that the issue would be debated in Parliament, urging systemic reforms to address student grievances. The Delhi High Court had earlier directed regular medical checks for Wangchuk, who lost nearly 9.5 kg during his fast.Pawar's criticism comes amid growing pressure on the Centre to resolve the crisis and prevent further escalation of protests.
