Omo-Agege Joins NDC to Contest Delta Central Senatorial Seat in 2027
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is expected to formally ratify former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate during its nationwide primaries scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026.According to party officials, Obi is emerging as the sole aspirant for the presidential ticket, making his affirmation largely procedural.
The exercise will also produce candidates for governorship, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly positions across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, explained that some preparatory activities were affected by logistical disruptions linked to the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
He noted that several aspirants and members of the screening committee were stranded in Abuja due to transport challenges and lack of available flights.Despite these issues, the party insisted that the primaries would proceed as planned nationwide, following the original timetable for May 28 and 29.The process will begin with the presidential affirmation, followed by other levels of primaries or affirmations.
Cleopas further stated that all results must be collated from the states and sent directly to the national headquarters for official announcement by the National Working Committee, stressing that no state chapter is allowed to declare results independently. He also warned that security agencies, including the police, DSS, and INEC, should not engage in activities outside the approved party guidelines.
Members and aspirants were urged to remain peaceful and orderly, as the party warned against violence, hooliganism, or any form of disruption during the exercise.
