A new ambulance has been handed over to Shinyanga District Council, ending a five-year struggle for emergency referrals at Tinde Health Centre.The vehicle will exclusively serve emergency cases, with health officials clarifying that patients won't pay directly for the service but may contribute to operational costs like maintenance and driver salaries.This follows an accident in 2021 that destroyed the previous ambulance, prompting MP Azzah Hillal to push for a replacement.The facility now handles 156 referrals monthly, including critical cases for expectant mothers.Despite improvements, challenges remain, such as insufficient staff and lack of infrastructure like perimeter fences.The district council now operates three ambulances, with promises to maintain the new one properly.Hillal also announced plans for borehole drilling vehicles to address water shortages in schools.
