New CNN Poll Shows Declining Public Confidence in Trump’s Economic Leadership

A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS suggests growing public dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump’s handling of the U.S.economy, an issue that has historically been one of his strongest political advantages.

According to the survey, 77 percent of Americans—including a notable share of Republicans—believe Trump’s policies are contributing to the rising cost of living. His economic approval rating has dropped to 30 percent, marking the lowest point of his political career.CNN anchor Kate Bolduan emphasized the depth of concern among Americans, noting that 73 percent describe current economic conditions as poor.Financial anxiety appears widespread, with many Americans struggling to manage everyday expenses.

The poll indicates that roughly two-thirds of respondents would be unable to comfortably cover an unexpected $1,000 expense, highlighting concerns about financial stability and household resilience.

CNN political director David Chalian added context by pointing out that economic pessimism has persisted for several years, partly reflecting lingering effects from the post-COVID economy.

While some macroeconomic indicators may appear stable, many Americans do not feel financially secure in their daily lives, especially as prices for essentials remain high. The survey also reveals weakening support among Republicans on key economic issues.Trump’s approval rating among his own party has fallen below 50 percent on gas prices, a rare development. On inflation, 60 percent of Republicans approve of his handling, while 40 percent disapprove—an unusually large divide within his base. These findings are particularly significant because inflation and cost-of-living concerns were central themes in Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Overall, the poll signals mounting economic anxiety across the electorate and suggests that Trump’s once-reliable advantage on economic issues may be eroding as voters increasingly feel the strain of rising costs.

This is hardly surprising. It's good to see even Republicans are starting to wake up to the fact that these policies are crushing working families. A 30% approval rating on the economy? That speaks volumes about the disconnect between the wealthy and the people actually struggling to pay rent and put food on the table. We need systemic change.

30% approval? LOL. Systemic probs, man. They're only *now* gettin' it? Kinda late. Wealth disparity's the core issue. Don't need a poll to tell ya regular folks are gettin’ wrecked. Real change needs to be dismantled, not tweaked. This ain't about Repub switchin' – it's about a broken system.

not surprised. Folks are feeling the squeeze, and that’s regardless of party. It's tough out there for a lot of us, and these polls just reflect that reality.
