Despite early setbacks in their first innings, where New Zealand found themselves struggling at 86/4 within the first session, the visitors recovered strongly thanks to a pivotal batting display from Tom Blundell and Rachin Ravindra.

Blundell anchored the innings with an impressive 186 runs, while Ravindra contributed to a crucial 217-run partnership that shifted momentum firmly in New Zealand’s favour.The team eventually posted a commanding first-innings total of 490/8 declared.
