An NGO focused on combating child abuse has called for the immediate sentencing of Iain Ware, an 86-year-old convicted sex offender, following the postponement of his pre-sentencing trial in the Wynberg Magistrates' Court.

The organization, Women and Men Against Child Abuse, emphasized that further delays in the legal process would exacerbate the trauma experienced by the victim, a Grade 5 pupil assaulted in 1998 at Rondebosch Boys' Primary School.Despite a pending arrest warrant, Ware remains on bail, raising concerns about the justice system's handling of paedophilia cases.

The NGO welcomed the court's decision to delay the matter by only six days, warning that South Africa must not become a safe haven for child abusers.

The case highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring timely justice for victims and holding perpetrators accountable, particularly given the age of the accused and the historical nature of the crime.The organization's stance underscores the need for stricter legal measures to prevent similar incidents and protect vulnerable populations.
