Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has officially started the reconstruction of the 5.43-kilometre Kontagora Township Dual Carriageway, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation and boosting economic activities in the state.

The road, stretching from Barrack Junction to Makera Junction along Yauri Road, is part of the government's urban renewal agenda to build a 'New Niger' through critical infrastructure.

Governor Bago emphasized that the project will unlock economic opportunities for businesses, farmers, transporters, and residents by easing movement of people and goods.

He highlighted Kontagora's strategic role as a commercial and agricultural hub in Niger North Senatorial District and a gateway linking communities.The reconstruction is necessary due to years of increased traffic, inadequate drainage, and ageing infrastructure.The project complements other developments like the 8.7-kilometre Kontagora Bypass expansion (85% complete) and the 19.4-kilometre Western Bypass.

The governor reiterated the administration's commitment to durable infrastructure that attracts investments, creates jobs, and improves living standards.The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, praised the project's potential to enhance mobility, road safety, and quality of life.Local leaders and community members commended the initiative, noting its impact on reducing transportation challenges and promoting economic growth.The project's consultant, Aliyu Abdulrauf, mentioned modern features like pedestrian walkways and drainage systems.Contractor Li Xiaowen assured quality delivery within the timeframe.

The reconstruction is expected to improve transportation, facilitate trade, and accelerate socio-economic development in Kontagora and surrounding areas.
