Nigeria Police Procures 10 Toyota Prados for N1.74 Billion Under New IGP Disu

The Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, spent a staggering N1.74 billion in a single day on the procurement of 10 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado V6 2024 model SUVs.

According to payment records reviewed by SaharaReporters and data from socio accountability platform Govspend, the police made two separate payments of N868.697 million each to Mujaf Automobile Nigeria Ltd on May 9, 2026.This brings the total expenditure to N1.737 billion for the 10 vehicles, averaging N173.7 million per SUV.The transactions occurred less than three months after Disu was appointed as Acting IGP following the exit of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun. This spending highlights the police's focus on modernizing its fleet, though it raises questions about budget allocation and transparency.Previously, the police had spent over N239.4 million in 2025 on food items like tinned fish, biscuits, and canned goods for personnel on security operations.

While the procurement of SUVs is a significant investment, the contrast with earlier spending on dry rations underscores the need for accountability in public resource management.
