President Bola Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army from 8 to 12 divisions, alongside the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel, to strengthen national security.

The implementation will occur in two phases: the first by September 2026, focusing on establishing key divisions in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo, and Benin City, while the second phase by December 2026 will finalize the restructuring.The new divisions are strategically placed across states to enhance command and control, border security, and counter-insurgency operations.

The move underscores Tinubu's commitment to modernizing the military, improving operational effectiveness, and addressing evolving security threats.
