A Nigerian federal court conducted an inspection of a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun State, which is linked to the country's largest drug seizure operation.

The visit followed the arrest of 10 suspects, including three Mexican nationals, during coordinated raids in Lagos and Ogun State between May 16 and 18, 2026.The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported that the operation uncovered 2.67 tonnes of methamphetamine, with seized drugs and precursor chemicals estimated to have a street value of $363 million (R6.09 billion).The defendants, charged with operating an illegal drug lab and trafficking, pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody.

The case underscores growing concerns about the expansion of foreign drug cartels into Nigeria, highlighting the scale of organized crime networks and their financial reach.Legal proceedings will focus on the prosecution's evidence, including the chemicals, equipment, and other materials seized during the raids.This incident reflects broader challenges in combating transnational drug trafficking and the need for enhanced law enforcement collaboration.
