The National Chairman of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Agbo Gilbert Major, has accused former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of using the party as a bargaining chip during the 2023 general elections.

In an interview with Trust TV, Major claimed that Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP presidential candidate in 2023 but is now the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for 2027, focused his campaign efforts solely on Kano and Jigawa states, abandoning the rest of the country.

Major stated that Kwankwaso's actions indicated a personal interest in those regions rather than a genuine commitment to the party's broader goals.He emphasized that the party remains active, having recently finalized its National Assembly and presidential candidate lists.The accusation highlights tensions within the political landscape, with Major suggesting that Kwankwaso's strategy was self-serving.This incident underscores the challenges of maintaining party unity and effective campaigning in Nigeria's competitive electoral environment.
