Norway and Arunachal Pradesh Collaborate on River Kinetic Energy Project

The Arunachal Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Norway’s Tidal Sails AS to establish India’s first kinetic energy demonstration plant.

This 500 kW project will generate electricity directly from river currents without requiring major civil infrastructure, offering an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective renewable energy solution.

The initiative, supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Innovation Norway, aims to harness the state’s estimated 58,000 MW hydropower potential.

Science and Technology Minister Dasanglu Pul emphasized the project’s role in strengthening energy security while ensuring responsible natural resource utilization.

The Norwegian Ambassador highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s ideal location for demonstrating river kinetic technology, which could complement existing renewable sources and enhance long-term energy resilience.

This collaboration underscores growing ties between Norway and Arunachal Pradesh in geothermal energy, geotechnical engineering, and sustainable infrastructure development.
