John’s Primary School Field bring plenty sons and daughters of the community together, including traditional rulers, professors, youths and other important guests.
Dem use the festival to thank God for good harvest and also remember the late King Fedrick Aduku Simangi Ogbotom-Edede IV, the man wey start this festival.HRH Bishop Akuegbe Paul, the traditional head of the community, talk say the big turnout show unity and cultural identity.He say the festival no be only about yam but about keeping the legacy of their late king and promoting peaceful living.One big guest, Professor Nedie Patience Akani from Rivers State University, commend the people for settling their quarrels and coming together.She talk say before now, there were fights and court cases but now God don unite them, and without unity there cannot be progress.The event also get cultural competitions where Yenikabu II Compound win overall, and dem coronate eleven Compound Chiefs plus women leaders.Important dignitaries from different kingdoms come to support the occasion.
For the people of Ogu, this festival na way to preserve their traditions, strengthen bonds, promote reconciliation and make sure the values of their ancestors continue to guide the young ones.This kind celebration dey help build better community spirit for Bayelsa State.
