One dead, eight injured after three-storey commercial building collapses near Saket Metro in Delhi

A three-storey commercial building collapsed near Saket Metro station in south Delhi on the evening of May 30, 2026, resulting in the death of a 26-year-old man and injuries to eight others. The incident occurred on Western Marg in the Saidulajab area, where the structure housed a coaching institute, cafes, and office spaces.

At the time of the collapse, construction activity was reportedly underway on the upper floor, which may have contributed to the structural failure, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed. The collapse was severe, reducing the building entirely to rubble.

Debris also fell onto a nearby tin shed canteen that is commonly used by students preparing for medical entrance examinations, increasing the extent of the damage and risk to life.

Emergency response teams, including the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Police, and local volunteers, quickly launched a coordinated rescue operation.

According to officials, seven individuals were rescued by emergency personnel, while two were pulled out by local residents before official teams arrived. All eight injured persons were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. The deceased was identified as Ravi.

The injured include individuals from Delhi, Gurugram, Bihar, and Noida, reflecting the mixed-use nature of the building frequented by students and professionals.

Rescue operations continued overnight, with teams deploying heavy machinery, hydraulic cutters, sniffer dogs, and victim-location cameras to search for any remaining survivors trapped under the debris.Authorities are expected to investigate compliance with building safety norms and construction regulations as part of the follow-up to the incident.
