Pakistan and China have jointly urged the United States and Iran to immediately halt hostilities and restart diplomatic talks, amid escalating tensions that threaten the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at resolving the conflict.

The call for de-escalation followed a high-level meeting between Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Shanghai, held during the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO) summit.

Both nations expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation and emphasized the need for all parties to fulfill their commitments under the MoU, which they described as a hard-won outcome of bilateral negotiations and international efforts.China's Wang Yi praised Pakistan's role as a mediator, highlighting its 'indispensable' contribution to achieving peace.The appeal comes as renewed clashes between the US and Iran continue, with Tehran accusing Washington of targeting civilian infrastructure.Pakistan and China also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, including advancing the CPEC 2.0 initiative and expanding cooperation in AI and technology.

The Foreign Office noted that the meeting underscored the importance of multilateral dialogue and regional stability, with both nations pledging to maintain close coordination on shared interests.
