Dar-Kallas talks highlight Pakistan-EU plans to expand cooperation in trade and diplomacy
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas at PM House on Monday, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to deepen cooperation with the European Union across multiple sectors.
During the meeting, the premier expressed satisfaction over the 8th round of the EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue and emphasised key areas like trade, investment, climate change, security, migration, sustainable development, and connectivity.
PM Shehbaz also appreciated the role of GSP+ in strengthening trade relations and thanked EU leadership for supporting Pakistan’s peace efforts in the Gulf, particularly regarding mediation between the US and Iran.Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, and other senior officials were present.
Kallas, recognising Pakistan as a major regional power, appreciated Islamabad’s mediation role and encouraged further progress on governance, labour rights, and environmental protection under the GSP+ framework.She highlighted the EU as Pakistan’s largest export market and reaffirmed EU interest in deepening strategic engagement.
Both sides discussed global and regional developments, including South Asia, Afghanistan, and the US-Iran conflict, emphasising a need for collective efforts for lasting peace.
Dar underscored Pakistan-EU trade and investment potential and the importance of consistent strategic dialogues, while Kallas noted the momentum of 2026 as an opportunity to strengthen forward-looking partnership.
