Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is set to visit Washington for a three-day diplomatic engagement focused on advancing bilateral economic cooperation with the United States.

The talks will center on negotiations for a potential trade agreement, addressing tariffs, market access, investment opportunities, and broader economic partnerships.Key meetings are scheduled with U.S.agencies including the Office of the U.S.Trade Representative (USTR), Exim Bank, International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), and the IMF.

The visit follows ongoing discussions over global tariff reforms initiated under President Trump's IEEPA framework, which previously imposed 29% tariffs on Pakistani exports.

These were later reduced to 19%, but a Supreme Court ruling invalidated the tariffs, prompting the Trump administration to impose a temporary 10% global tariff set to expire in late July.Pakistan faces additional scrutiny under Section 301 investigations over alleged forced labor practices, with proposed tariffs of 10% pending.

The minister's visit aims to strengthen trade ties and explore financing for infrastructure and energy projects, building on previous engagements during the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in April.
