Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a productive meeting with Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev, focusing on enhancing cooperation among member states in key areas like economy, transport, and connectivity.

The discussions emphasized Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability, with Yermekbayev commending Islamabad’s contributions.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing SCO objectives and expressed readiness to collaborate closely with member states ahead of Pakistan assuming the SCO Council of Heads of State chairmanship in September 2026 and hosting the summit in 2027.

The SCO, originally a security-focused group, now prioritizes trade and economic development across its 10 member states, including India, China, Russia, and Central Asian nations.

The meeting also addressed regional challenges like terrorism and organized crime, aligning with Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to uphold the 'Shanghai spirit' of cooperation.
