The Department of Health in KwaZulu Natal has condemned a criminal attack on emergency services workers in northern KZN.Paramedics responding to a call for help were hijacked at gunpoint, robbed of personal belongings, and forced to drive to two taverns to purchase alcohol using their bank cards.They were held captive for four hours before being released.While no physical assault occurred, the psychological trauma inflicted is described as immeasurable.

The department expressed outrage over the incident, which took place at Nkwalini Store on the R34, and highlighted that such crimes against EMS employees have become a troubling pattern in KZN.Officials emphasized that emergency workers should not be targeted for exploitation and called for justice, with the matter reported to SAPS.

The attack underscores broader societal issues, as the department criticized the hypocrisy of calling upon public help only to abuse those who save lives.
