The first four days of the Monsoon Session of Parliament have ended without any legislative business being conducted, signalling the possibility of a prolonged deadlock between the government and the Opposition.

Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were repeatedly adjourned as Opposition parties continued to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET examination.Despite the government inviting the Opposition for discussions, the latter refused to participate unless its primary demand was addressed.

Efforts to break the impasse included meetings by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla with senior Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Supriya Sule, while Home Minister Amit Shah and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also held discussions with the Speaker.

Outside Parliament, Opposition MPs from several parties organised a candlelight march to Gandhi Smriti in solidarity with protesting students, following earlier demonstrations that had reportedly been dispersed by the police.

Rahul Gandhi stated that the march honoured students who allegedly lost their lives following the NEET paper leak controversy and expressed support for those injured during protests seeking accountability.Congress leaders, including P.

Chidambaram and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, criticised the government's handling of the protests, alleging excessive security measures in Delhi and condemning the reported use of pellet guns, shock batons and tear gas against students.

The continuing confrontation inside and outside Parliament has prevented legislative work from progressing, raising concerns that the Monsoon Session could face significant disruption unless both sides reach a political understanding.
