The Durban High Court issued a stern warning to the public attending the murder trial of Ferrel and Darren Govender, urging them not to intimidate or threaten journalists covering the proceedings.

Senior State Advocate Krishen Shah reported that a journalist was allegedly intimidated by individuals linked to the case, prompting the court to caution all attendees, including supporters of both the accused and the victim's family.

The incident occurred outside the courtroom when Darren Govender, on bail, confronted a reporter about a published report describing him as relaxed during the trial.A pastor associated with Govender accused the journalist of publishing false information and threatened legal action, stating he would 'sue you.' After initial refusal to provide contact details, the pastor eventually accepted them to pursue his complaint.Advocate Christo van Schalkwyk SC informed the journalist that the pastor had apologized.

Judge Mbuzeni Mathenjwa emphasized that while public observation of court proceedings is a right, it must be exercised responsibly, warning that interference or intimidation would result in police action or expulsion from the courtroom.The case continues with Shah leading testimony about Ferrel's alleged threats against a witness in 2024.
