The trial of Ferrel and Darren Govender, accused of murdering Shailen Singh in December 2024, commenced at the Durban High Court.A confidential witness testified that Ferrel Govender threatened him in 2023 following a misunderstanding involving his girlfriend, V Maharaj.

The witness described how he confronted Maharaj after seeing her WhatsApp status with Ferrel, leading to an altercation where Ferrel and his friend Sandesh Moothee Ram pushed him.The witness claimed Ferrel repeatedly harassed him via phone calls, accusing him of insulting his mother after a vulgar remark.Despite ending their relationship, the witness maintained a 'friends with benefits' arrangement with Maharaj.The State alleges the murder was motivated by a love triangle between Ferrel, Singh, and Maharaj.Both accused pleaded not guilty to multiple charges including attempted murder and assault.Ferrel was observed taking notes during testimony, while Darren appeared relaxed in court.The trial continues with further hearings scheduled for Wednesday.
