Tinubu probes Meta, Google, X over news content exploitation
Former presidential candidate Pat Utomi has alleged that impunity and disregard for due process have become deeply rooted in Nigeria's political system.
In a post shared on his X account, Utomi argued that the country has witnessed situations where powerful individuals allegedly continued to govern in the names of former Presidents Umar Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari while they were seriously ill.According to him, the same pattern is happening again, although he did not identify the specific individual or administration he was referring to.He described such actions as a serious betrayal of the Nigerian state, calling them an act of high treason.
Utomi maintained that transparency and constitutional order should never be sacrificed, especially during periods when a serving leader is unable to perform official duties. He also renewed his long-standing position that Nigerians above the age of 70 should not seek elective political office.Speaking about himself, he noted that he is already 70 years old and therefore believes the principle should apply equally to everyone.
The report also recalled Utomi's recent comments on opposition politics, where he praised Peter Obi's decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Utomi said Obi's move was politically wise because the ADC presidential primary later generated complaints from aspirants such as Chibuike Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-deen, who questioned the outcome of the process. He believes Obi avoided becoming entangled in those internal disputes ahead of the 2027 general election.
