The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formed a dedicated maritime unit to sustain the gains from the 2016 South China Sea arbitral ruling, which invalidated China's 'nine-dash line' claim.

Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida emphasized that this move is crucial for maintaining the legal framework established by the ruling, which 14 countries including the Philippines reaffirmed on its 10th anniversary.The DOJ's maritime law center serves as a centralized repository of expertise to ensure consistent enforcement of the award.

Vida highlighted that the government's commitment extends beyond the current generation, aiming to protect national interests for future generations.

Despite China's refusal to recognize the ruling, the Philippines and other nations continue to uphold the rule of law through legal forums and diplomatic efforts.The initiative underscores the importance of international law in resolving territorial disputes and maintaining regional stability.
