Kwara State Court Sets July 22 for Saraki's Defamation Case Arraignment
The Presidency has reacted to allegations surrounding Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is accused of creating and operating a non-existent government agency while posing as its director-general.
According to an official statement, Adeyemi allegedly ran an organisation known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, also referred to as the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, which authorities insist does not exist.
The Presidency says he used forged appointment letters, fake documents, and false claims of presidential backing to present himself as a government official.
Investigations reportedly began after complaints about suspicious activities linked to the supposed agency, leading to involvement of the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force.
Authorities further allege that Adeyemi held meetings with diplomats, maintained an office at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, and even attempted to secure diplomatic documentation for visa-related purposes.
Police reportedly arrested him in October 2025, with searches uncovering documents and evidence, including claims of 34 bank accounts linked to him and fictitious organisations.
Investigators also allege that a fraudulent account was opened at the Central Bank of Nigeria using false documents, although no public funds were paid into it.
The Presidency added that Adeyemi is currently facing an eight-count charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja over forgery, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretence, with the case scheduled for hearing in July 2026.
However, the matter has sparked public controversy, especially after reports that an entity with the same name appears in the 2026 national budget with an allocation of about N1.3 billion.
Critics argue this raises serious questions about oversight within government institutions, while the Presidency insists the matter is sub judice and should be left for the courts to decide. The case continues to generate debate online about accountability and internal control systems in public administration.
