Presidency rejects alleged fake Tinubu audio and considers legal action against influencer VDM
The Nigerian Presidency has come out to strongly dismiss a viral video circulating online which claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has converted from Islam to Christianity.
According to the report, the video, which lasted about eight minutes, showed Tinubu allegedly participating in a church gathering, leading to speculation on social media platform 𝕏 that the President had changed his religion.
However, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Segun Dada, quickly reacted to the claims, describing the video as completely false and misleading. He stated clearly that President Tinubu has not converted to Christianity and remains a practising Muslim.
Dada further explained that the President has always been a Muslim but maintains a respectful and supportive relationship with his wife, who is a pastor.
He emphasised that this reflects interfaith harmony within the President’s household, which he says also influences Tinubu’s approach to national leadership, promoting unity rather than religious division.
The Presidency urged Nigerians and social media users to disregard the misleading video, warning against the spread of misinformation that could create unnecessary religious tension in the country. The clarification was aimed at calming public reactions and preventing the viral content from causing confusion among citizens. In the same report, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also criticised the Tinubu administration over its handling of Nigeria’s economic situation.
Atiku, through his spokesperson Phrank Shaibu, argued that the government’s celebration of debt statistics does not reflect the harsh realities faced by Nigerians, including insecurity and economic hardship. He noted that issues like ransom payments have become a normal burden for many households.
Overall, the report highlights both the Presidency’s response to false religious conversion claims and ongoing political criticism from opposition figures regarding governance and economic conditions in Nigeria.
