Presidency rejects alleged fake Tinubu audio and considers legal action against influencer VDM

The Nigerian Presidency has strongly denied the authenticity of a viral audio recording allegedly linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as fabricated and misleading.

The clip, which circulated widely on social media platforms, was shared by influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), who claimed it contained statements from the President discussing insecurity in Nigeria, political strategies ahead of the 2027 elections, World Bank loans, and attempts to influence opposition figures such as Peter Obi.Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga reacted sharply to the development, accusing VDM of spreading false information and abusing social media platforms.

He stated that the audio was manipulated and capable of misleading the public while also damaging the image of the President and undermining national stability.

Onanuga further described the dissemination of such content as a serious issue that could threaten national security, especially given the sensitivity of political discussions in the country. In his response, Onanuga warned that VDM should face the full weight of the law for allegedly circulating the fake recording.

The Presidency maintained that the audio does not represent President Tinubu and insisted it was either doctored or generated using artificial intelligence tools.

Some of the alleged contents of the audio included claims that the President intended to increase borrowing from the World Bank and comments suggesting political dominance in the upcoming election cycle.Although legal action has been threatened, the Presidency has not yet confirmed whether formal proceedings have been initiated. As of now, VDM has not issued an official response to the allegations.

The controversy continues to generate public debate online, raising concerns about misinformation, digital manipulation, and the responsibilities of social media influencers in Nigeria's political space.
