President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised Toyota South Africa Motors' R10.4 billion investment in the ninth-generation Hilux production line as a testament to South Africa's economic potential.

During the virtual launch event at the Prospecton plant, he emphasized that the investment symbolizes confidence in the country's ability to transform commitments into jobs, industrial growth, and exports.The President highlighted the Hilux's role in South Africa's manufacturing legacy, noting its design for local conditions and export success.

He underscored the importance of science, technology, and innovation in modernizing the automotive sector, which contributes 5% to GDP and supports over 115,000 direct jobs.

Ramaphosa also addressed logistics improvements and the government's commitment to strengthening the automotive industry through policy certainty and partnerships.The investment includes R2 billion from suppliers to boost localisation, showcasing resilience in industrial ecosystems.He concluded by acknowledging Toyota, workers, and partners for their role in advancing South Africa's economic goals.
