Priyanka Gandhi questions government response to student protests and demands accountability

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the government's handling of ongoing student protests related to alleged NEET paper leaks and other concerns.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament, she accused the Prime Minister of taking credit for national achievements while avoiding responsibility when young people raise grievances against the system.

Priyanka alleged that protesting students faced police action, including lathi-charge and tear gas, and questioned whether such measures were appropriate in a democracy.

She said students were not criminals and highlighted concerns of families who may be unable to contact their children during protests due to reported internet restrictions in parts of central Delhi. She urged the Centre to directly engage with the protesting students, listen to their demands and restore their confidence in the education system.

She also supported calls for accountability, including demands from opposition parties for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the paper leak controversy.

The remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the protests by announcing the creation of fast-track courts to ensure quick punishment for those involved in paper leak cases.

The Prime Minister stated that protecting the future of young people was a priority and that those responsible for harming students' interests would not be spared.

The issue continued to create tensions during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, with ruling party and opposition MPs holding separate demonstrations and accusing each other over the handling of the controversy.
