Kenyan Woman Returns Home Safely After Spending One Year Detained in Lebanon
Matilda Nekesa Makhala, a Kenyan woman, has publicly confirmed claims made by First Lady Rachel Ruto about a childless woman from Bungoma who, after receiving prayers at a 2012 women's empowerment event, later gave birth to twin girls.
Nekesa described her personal journey: after marrying, facing infertility, and enduring a divorce, she was prayed for at the Bungoma gathering in 2012.She subsequently remarried in 2017 and was blessed with twins.
Nekesa recounted a later Easter trip where she encountered the president and his family; she approached Rachel, knelt to thank her for the prayers, and the First Lady asked for her son George’s number to stay in touch.
Nekesa also noted social media backlash surrounding the claim, insisting she had not been paid for the account and expressing a desire for Rachel to bless her children.
The story has sparked a broad online debate about faith, miracles, and the role of prayer in addressing personal struggles, alongside discussions about the balance between spiritual and economic solutions in Kenya.
Nekesa has also been a foster parent to about 30 children, and she indicated that her commitment to this calling contributed to the end of her second marriage. The perspective comes from an exclusive interview with Amondi Aroko of TUKO.co.ke.
