The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a ₹1,264 crore railway line expansion project in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, spanning 46 km across three districts.This multi-tracking initiative aims to alleviate congestion, enhance operational efficiency, and improve service reliability for railways.The project will increase freight capacity by 16.22 MTPA, supporting the transportation of critical goods like iron ore, coal, and food grains.It aligns with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on multi-modal connectivity and logistics optimization.The expansion will also boost rail access to tourist sites like Ballari Fort and Sri Kumara Swamy Temple, promoting regional tourism.Additionally, the project is expected to create employment opportunities, aligning with the government's 'Atmanirbhar' vision.

Stakeholder consultations and integrated planning were central to the project's design, ensuring sustainable development and economic growth in the region.
