This article presents a collection of 32 childhood photographs of Tupac Shakur and explores the circumstances that shaped his early years during the 1970s.Born Lesane Parish Crooks on June 16, 1971, Tupac grew up primarily in New York City, including East Harlem and parts of the Bronx.

His upbringing was deeply influenced by the political activism of his family, particularly his mother, Afeni Shakur, a prominent member of the Black Panther Party.Afeni gained national attention after successfully defending herself in the Panther 21 trial and being acquitted shortly before Tupac's birth.

Many of Tupac's relatives and family associates were involved in Black Panther and Black Liberation Army activities, exposing him from an early age to discussions about social justice, racism, and political struggle.The family often faced poverty, instability, and frequent relocations, living in small apartments, public housing, and shelters.Despite these hardships, Afeni worked to instill pride in Black history and resistance movements.Tupac was renamed Tupac Amaru Shakur after the Peruvian revolutionary Túpac Amaru II, reflecting these values.His childhood also included exposure to law enforcement scrutiny and the broader consequences of political activism.Alongside these challenges, Tupac displayed early artistic interests and was recognized as an intelligent and sensitive child.These creative talents later developed further after the family's move to Baltimore in 1984, where he attended the Baltimore School for the Arts.
