Rea Vaya’s Phase 1B bus services have been suspended since Friday, leaving thousands of commuters stranded and forcing them to find alternative transport.

The bus service informed passengers via social media that no buses would operate on Friday, but the suspension continued through the weekend and into Monday.

In a statement, Rea Vaya apologized for the inconvenience, stating that services between Soweto and Johannesburg CBD, as well as other areas, remain temporarily suspended.Phase 1C(a) services between Johannesburg CBD and Sandton are operating normally.The company claims it is working with stakeholders to resolve the issue and will provide updates during the week.

Commuters have expressed frustration on social media, questioning why Soweto passengers are being overlooked and demanding refunds until the problem is fixed.

One commuter criticized the lack of a backup plan, while another lamented the unreliability of the service, especially with limited funds for transport.The suspension has caused significant disruption, highlighting the critical role of public transport in daily life.
