The Nigerian Red Cross Society has trained 72 members of Flood Rapid Response Teams across six flood-prone local government areas in Kebbi State to enhance community preparedness and mitigate flood impacts.

The training, conducted over two weeks, equipped participants with river water gauges to monitor water levels and issue early warnings to at-risk communities.

The initiative, led by Disaster Management Officer Nwoacha Ekeoma, involves collaboration with key agencies like the Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, and Red Cross volunteers.

The teams, drawn from areas like Shanga, Yauri, and Argungu, are tasked with timely responses to flood incidents, ensuring effective coordination during emergencies.

The project also includes installing water gauges to support early warning systems, aiming to reduce the devastating effects of flooding before, during, and after events.

Stakeholders emphasized strengthening partnerships between the Red Cross, Kebbi State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and other partners to improve flood preparedness and address flash flood challenges.This effort underscores the importance of community resilience and proactive disaster management in vulnerable regions.
