The House of Representatives has called for a full audit of all assets seized, forfeited, recovered, managed, disposed of or repatriated by Nigerian government institutions since the return to democracy in 1999.

Lawmakers want transparency on how much has been recovered, where these assets are located, their management, proceeds from disposal, and whether funds were properly accounted for.The demand covers the period from May 29, 1999, under former President Obasanjo to the current Tinubu administration.Concerns over weak oversight mechanisms and lack of a centralized asset register have led to calls for improved accountability.Lawmakers highlighted issues like poor record-keeping, valuation problems, and possible leakages in asset management.

They urged the government to conduct a comprehensive audit and establish a digital registry to track recovered assets from corruption, money laundering, and financial crimes.The motion was adopted after discussions on improving transparency and public trust in Nigeria's asset recovery system.
