A special court in Bhopal has rejected the bail plea of retired judge Giribala Singh, who is accused in the dowry death case of model Twisha Sharma.The court observed that the charges against her were 'serious.

' Singh, Sharma's mother-in-law, and her son Samarth Singh were arrested on charges of dowry-related harassment, mental abuse, and domestic violence.The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the case.The defence argued that Singh, an elderly woman with health issues, needed medical care and had a 100-year-old mother dependent on her.They also claimed she cooperated with the investigation and had a regular salary.The CBI opposed bail, stating her gender alone couldn't justify it, especially since the deceased was also a woman.

The court cited the Madhya Pradesh High Court's quashing of her anticipatory bail and alleged she obstructed the investigation by contacting witnesses and attempting to influence the probe.Her release could risk witness tampering and hinder the investigation.The case highlights legal complexities in dowry-related deaths and the judiciary's approach to serious charges.
