FCT Police Arrest Four Officers for Forcing ICPC Chairman to Pay at Illegal Checkpoint
A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hilary Opara, has been accused of allegedly instructing prison authorities to chain and torture David Nwokorie, the former boyfriend of his daughter, Genevieve Opara.
Despite a Federal High Court in Abuja granting Nwokorie bail, his release remains pending due to stringent conditions requiring a serving Nigerian Army Colonel as surety, which family members claim is practically impossible to meet.
Sources at Kuje Custodial Centre revealed that Opara allegedly contacted prison officials on Tuesday to request harsher treatment for Nwokorie, who has been in detention since April 2026 over cybercrime and cyberstalking charges.A prison official stated they were shocked by the request but refused to comply.
The case stems from a relationship breakdown between Nwokorie and Genevieve Opara, with Nwokorie alleging she concealed her past marriage and children during their relationship.
His lawyer claims the dispute began after Genevieve discovered Nwokorie had proposed to another woman, leading to property damage and subsequent legal action.
Nwokorie's family alleges Opara used his influence to prolong his detention, while Genevieve maintains police acted on sufficient evidence of blackmail and cyberbullying.
